Flutters and Flails

I"m a girl who likes to read and tell - so I do :)  Make sure you check out my blog - and if you want to follow it, that would be awesome!  http://fluttersandflails.blogspot.com/

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Series #1)

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Series #1) - I never ever thought I'd be able to get into a story about a cyborg, but I really REALLY liked this one. Can't wait to see what happens next :)

Forbidden

Forbidden - Karen Erickson I finished it...that's about all I can say.

Under the Never Sky

Under the Never Sky - This was more like a 3.5 for me, but I'm rounding up...

The Book Thief

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak Sometimes you read a book that you know will stay with you for a long long time...this is one of them

The Sea of Tranquility

The Sea of Tranquility - Katja Millay Perfect.

How to Kill a Rock Star

How to Kill a Rock Star - Tiffanie DeBartolo ALL THE STARS.And if you love me at all, you will read this book. Trust.

Pantomime

Pantomime - Laura Lam I need to figure out a way to review this book without giving anything away because even the tiniest of spoilers will be detrimental...but I enjoyed every page of this book. It was unlike anything I've ever read.Ok...lets try this. Pantomime is the story of a boy and a girl and their quest to live freely. Micah and Iphegenia have grown up living a lie. The rigid rules of a noble society caused them to live a life of lies and deceit until one night when an act of desperation sets them free. Or does it.This review would be so much easier to write if I included spoilers, but I refuse. A huge part of what makes this story is the twist. Just trust me. Laura Lam creates a beautiful world filled with nobility, adventure, romance and pain. I've never read a story dealing with the particular issue in this book and the awkwardness and pain I felt in parts totally enhanced my ability to understand the life of the characters. I can't imagine living my life not able to identify who I was or what I was meant to be through no fault of my own.I can only hope that based on the way the book ended that there will be more to come. I'm not afraid to beg.

The Theory of Attraction: The Theory of AttractionA Shot in the DarkForbidden Fantasies

The Theory of Attraction: The Theory of AttractionA Shot in the DarkForbidden Fantasies - Delphine Dryden, Christine d'Abo, Jodie Griffin I think this anthology ruined me for BBT and any "very special episodes of (insert tv show here). Good lord, Im in a mood. FWIW, I only read the 1st and the 3rd story because I'd already read and reviewed the 2nd in a previous ARC. I'll elaborate more when I can put some coherent thoughts together.

Leave Me Breathless (Ross Siblings, #3)

Leave Me Breathless (Ross Siblings, #3) - Cherrie Lynn Brian may always be my favorite, but Ghost/Seth is a verrrrry close second.Ink + piercings in all my fav. places (yes, ALL) + manners + musician = yes. please. So yeah.

The Crush

The Crush - C.A. Williams Everybody who knows me knows that I am an emotional reader and I can normally overlook an editing error if the story grabs me...But there were too many for me to overlook AND at one point Hallie was Wynn's cousin instead of Collins. If you can't keep your characters straight, it makes it hard for me to want to continue. I had to DNF at 23%

Embracing You, Embracing Me

Embracing You, Embracing Me - Michelle Bellon I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.Again, I rounded up. This is a solid 2.5 for me, which makes me sad because I wanted to like this book SO much more than I did.Roshell McRady was a teenager in the 90s, who lived in a trailer park and dreamed of getting out. Since I was a teenager in the 90s myself, I was SOOOO excited to connect with a book in that way and get a chance to relive my own memories. But the only way this book connected with the 90s was with a few obscure mentions -- a Janet Jackson lyric, a boy wearing Drakkar, and talking about Kurt Cobain once. I was totally let down. BUT, there should be more to a book than just the setting, so lets talk about the story. Roshell grew up with absolutely no male figure in her life. Her father, uncles, grandfather -- all were absent from her life, and as such she has a difficult time trusting herself to establish secure relationships with boys her own age. Until she meets Gabriel.Who she loves, but she won't tell him.So she moves away. And then there is a time jump during which she quits ballet, gets MARRIED, has a child and gets divorced. Maybe it is just me, but those seem to be events that would be relevant to her story. For real, it was like whole chapters were missing. So she goes back to her hometown, reconnects with Gabriel and all seems right.Insert gratuitous angst here. Granted, I did cry, but holy hell, it was like totally angst for the sake of angst. So she starts to binge drink and self-destruct until she is jerked back to reality by her grandmother, who we haven't seen or heard from since before the time jump. She gets a job in a Casino, meets another man named Nico, has a fight with him about his drug use and her inability to commit, moves in with him, goes camping, HAS A DREAM ABOUT GABRIEL, wakes up and says is ready to get married (to Nico). The End.I mean, this story had SUCH potential but the gaping holes were just too much.

The Pleasures of Winter

The Pleasures of Winter - Evie Hunter I got this as an ARC from Netgalley. This was more like a 2.5-2.75 stars for me, but I'm rounding up and dreaming of the day when you can assign partial stars.I'm perplexed by how I feel about this story. Parts of me enjoyed it, parts of me were confused and wanted more, parts of me were completely offended - but I guess that's my fault for reading a book that was described in part by "If you liked Fifty Shades...". Bad Risbee...bad bad Risbee.Anyhoo...this is the story of secret Dominant movie star Jack and unknowing sub reporter Abbie. Thrown together by chance, their relationship ignites after a plane crash that strands them in a rain forest for 4 days. Pretty cool premise, but then it gets so random that I'm not sure where to take my review. There is non-consensual spanking that is totally not okay even though Abbie eventually decided that it turned her on and Jack realizes that she is a submissive (how convenient). Throw in a wimpy fiance, overbearing family, a best friend who just happens to be a relationship therapist, mysterious bad guys that are chasing Abbie, evil politicians and an Aunt/Uncle who (again, conveniently) happen to live in Ireland which is where Jack just HAPPENS to be from...and that's pretty much the story. It was just too...contrived to work for me. That being said, it was BETTER than Fifty Shades. Abbie does have a bit of a backbone, she is career driven and actually questions what Jack tells her. Aside from the initial spanking incident, Jack takes things relatively slow with Abbie, explaining and making sure she understands all aspects of a D/s relationship.I'm not sure if this a stand alone book. It could be one, but there were ways it could branch out - Kit and Kevin's story, who's chasing Abbie.... Jack's sister. There were so many things going on that weren't resolved...pieces were just missing in the puzzle. I'm a big fan of less is more and in this case, there is too much "more".

Ashfall (Ashfall (Trilogy - Hardcover))

Ashfall - Mike Mullin Even as a self-proclaimed dystopian junkie, this book fascinated me. I'd seen it on my TL a few times and had even marked it as to-read, but it wasn't until it was rec'd to me by a friend last week that I took the time to look at it seriously.Dude.Something like this...it could happen. So many books talk about government takeovers and the collapse of civilizations - both completely frightening and plausible events - but this is something completely beyond our control. And that terrifies me (maybe because I felt my house shake a little bit this afternoon when the earthquake happened in Kentucky?)I feel like I need to start canning vegetables and raising chickens. But back to the book :) Darla - I love her and while I've never been a 16 year old boy, I found Alex to be pretty much what I expected. He isn't written as the perfect male superhero boy -- and btw, where were all those boys when I was in HS. She is smart and level-headed with enough snark to hold her own. He is awkward and unsure and has a few "I WILL PROTECT YOU" moments where maybe his testosterone get the better of him. But the relationship between Alex and Darla is totally realistic and perfectly simple.Mike Mullin has written a story that has completely sucked me in and I can't wait to find out where he takes these two in the next book.

Seducing Avery

Seducing Avery - Barb Han It was free on Amazon and I was intrigued by the title **wink**

The Prince

The Prince (The Original Sinners) - Tiffany Reisz Loved it -- better review to come later, after Ive had a chance to gather my thoughts. I have so many things to say!Ok, so I changed my mind. I feel like I need to write this review now while all the emotions and thoughts are still fresh. They are tumbling around in my mind like a blizzard, but for those of you that actually read my reviews, you know that's how I work. What can I say about this book that doesn't give anything away? One one hand, it deserves all shouty flaily cap words and bouncy claps and the same "read this now" t-shirt I said after reading The Angel - but (and don't worry, this is a good but) it almost doesn't seem the right response. The intensity was overwhelming and delicious and absolutely necessary. I found myself wincing at parts and reading though my fingers, but with every page turn I wanted to immerse myself in the depth and the feelings. Soak in it like a warm bath with candles and lots of wine until I get sleepy. I can't speak French worth a damn, but every italicized word or phrase was like a whispered kiss (-- well, except for 5 words that will haunt me until The Mistress comes out). When you read it, you'll know what I mean. Half my updates were in a language I shouldn't understand, but when I was reading, I felt fluent. Because this story is more than just words. The Siren was sassyThe Angel was enlighteningThe Prince...was emotion. And I mean that completely for all the Princes. Everything I felt for Wesley, for Kingsley, for Soren in the earlier books is multiplied by kazillions. What Tiffany Reisz does with her characters is nothing short of magic. I can't think of another series of books that has grabbed me so consistently and yet each book does so in a completely different way. As with the others in this series, I can't wait to read this one again and again and again...

Good For You (Between the Lines, #3)

Good For You (Between the Lines, #3) - Tammara Webber I am all swoony smiley and totally needed that HEA
